Person hit by falling tree limb on Comm. Ave in serious condition

BOSTON — An employee at a Herb Chambers dealership was hit with a falling tree limb while walking through an alley near Commonwealth Avenue in Brookline Tuesday afternoon.

The 29-year-old man was in the area where Belmont Tree Service was removing tree branches when a piece that had been cut fell on him.

Police say the tree branch was about 30 inches long and about a foot in diameter.

"There was a commotion, you hear some trees fall and there was a guy with a red T-shirt on laying on the ground with a bunch of trees and branches on top of him -- wasn't moving," witness Herbie Jones told FOX25.

The man was taken to Beth Israel Hospital in serious condition and underwent surgery Tuesday evening.

Police say the tree crew had the alley marked off, but are investigating if the man had cut through a fence into the work area when he was hit.

People who work nearby and know the man who was hit tell FOX25 Herb Chambers employees store cars in a garage nearby then either use a rear set of stairs or cut through the broken fence to get back to the dealership.

“A valued employee of ours was injured in this very serious incident. Our hearts go out to him and his family; we are keeping him in our prayers and ask that you do the same,” Herb Chambers told FOX25.
