BARNSTABLE, Mass. — A person was hit and killed by a police car in Barnstable early Sunday morning, according to the Barnstable Police Department.
Massachusetts State Police say around 2 a.m., a marked Barnstable police cruiser was traveling southbound on Falmouth Road (Route 28) responding to an emergency call with its emergency lights and sirens activated.

State police say another vehicle traveling the same direction pulled over to let the cruiser pass. As the cruiser passed the vehicle on the left, it hit a pedestrian walking on the double yellow center line of the road with its right front side.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and the officer was taken to Cape Code Hospital with minor injuries.
The accident is under investigation. Neither the victim or the officer’s identities have been released.
