People of Freetown vote down idea of casino

FREETOWN (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The people of Freetown overwhelmingly voted down the idea of a casino in their community.

The Aquinnah Tribe had hoped to build a 425,000 square-foot resort-style casino with hotels and parking. Tuesday night's vote was non-binding.

The Aquinnah is now turning its attention to neighboring Lakeville. Residents there will vote Saturday.

If Lakeville approves the tribe says they will ask the governor for a compact agreement and then work out a plan with Lakeville. The tribe has until July 31 to complete that process.
