NORWOOD, Mass. — Police have identified the woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking to Norwood Hospital as Dawn Whitney, 81, of Foxboro.
Norwood Police Chief William Brooks says Whitney was crossing Washington Street to go visit someone at Norwood Hospital on Wednesday when she was fatally struck by a gray SUV.
Hospital staff ran out immediately to assist her the street and rush her into the hospital, but she passed away.

An older woman struck on or near the crosswalk at @NorwoodHospital has died. @NorwoodPolice say she was bringing someone in the hospital flowers. Hospital staff tried to work on her, but were unsuccessful. Police are investigating the cause of the crash. @ChiefBrooksNPD: pic.twitter.com/4ItZhf41gv

The vehicle did stop and remained on scene.
Police are investigating what caused the crash. They say it does not appear the driver was impaired or speeding.
