Pedestrian in critical condition after being struck by car in Hyannis

HYANNIS, Mass. — A pedestrian was struck by a car in Hyannis on Saturday morning and is now fighting for his life.

Police were called to the scene at Sea Street and Summerside Lane at around 4 a.m. for reports of a driver allegedly striking and dragging a pedestrian with their car.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and may not survive, according to Barnstable Police.

Neighbors say they woke up to blood and tire marks on the road.

“A really scary thought especially with kids in this neighborhood, so to see that and for the kids to see that and say 'mommy what is that?' - it's a little uneasy," said Breyanna Scott, a neighbor. "And then you know, people cut around the corner quick all the time so it’s just really unsettling to see.”

Police say the driver stayed on scene and cooperated with officials.

While neighbors say the man was dragged by the vehicle, police wouldn't confirm anything. However, the evidence, skid marks which stretch down Sea Street for about a quarter mile, is still there.

"The way that the marks are, you can see that there’s a drag mark but also the tire marks are right beside it, so it’s possible he could have been dragged as well, which is even worse," said Scott.

Police are still investigating this incident.
