Peabody 23-year-old charged with strangling, raping Regis student

WALTHAM, Mass. — A Peabody man has been charged with raping and strangling a woman Saturday in Waltham, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s office.

Evens Noel, 23, was ordered held without bail until a dangerousness hearing set for Monday.

Noel is not a student, but was visiting Regis College’s campus when he met the victim, according to a statement.

Noel is accused of taking the victim outside a dorm building to go for a walk when he is said to have strangled and sexually assaulted her.

The two did not previously know each other.

The school sent a statement to Boston 25 News:

“Campus police received a report of a sexual assault Saturday and contacted Weston Police who were able to identify and apprehend the suspect. We are deeply concerned about this crime and are focused on providing all of our support services to the survivor and family. The university maintains its steadfast commitment to ensuring a safe campus for our entire community and is grateful for the work of the Weston Police Department, Regis Campus Police and the Middlesex District Attorney to seek justice in this matter.”
