Police told residents to lock their doors and check their basements.
"This is a small town. Everybody knows everybody. It's unusual for something like that to happen," said Nahant resident Christine Kendall.
say they closed in on the 15-year-old and 18-year-old in the Bass Point area.
The 18-year-old was arrested without incident, but the 15-year-old, who had been driving the stolen car, assaulted the Nahant officer and took off. He was arrested four hours later trying to hitchhike off the island.
"We're kind of in a dead end. If you come to Nahant, you really can't get back out. It's not a good place to escape to if you commit a crime," said Nahant resident Maureen Decenzo.
The officer, who hasn’t been identified, has been on the force for more than 20 years.
