Pats' Dennard has DUI charge in Nebraska dismissed

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A drunken-driving charge in Nebraska against New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard has been dismissed. He pleaded no contest to another charge, was fined $500 and put on probation.

Dennard, who appeared in Lancaster County Court on Friday, was arrested in July on suspicion of drunken driving and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Assistant prosecutor Christine Loseke said the DUI and refusal to submit charges carry the same penalty and that it's common for people charged with one to have the other dismissed.

Dennard will serve probation concurrently with the term he's on for striking a police officer in 2012. On Thursday, a judge extended his probation from two to three years and his jail sentence from 30 to 60 days. The jail term is set for March.
