Patrick to have dinner with Obama Friday

BOSTON (AP) - Gov. Deval Patrick and his wife Diane are heading to Washington to have dinner with President Barack Obama at the White House.

The Patricks are flying to Washington on Friday after a groundbreaking ceremony for the Fore River Bridge connecting Quincy and Weymouth.

Patrick played a prominent role as a co-chair of Obama's re-election campaign. He delivered a speech at the Democratic National Convention and served as a surrogate for Obama in television appearances.

Patrick, who is also a friend of Obama and shares Chicago roots, created his own political action committee to pay for his travels around the country on behalf of the president.

Patrick has been mentioned as a possible Obama cabinet member, but he's pledged to serve the last two years of his term.

Patrick plans to return to Massachusetts on Saturday.
