Patients waited in lawn chairs set up at illegal dental office

LAWRENCE (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – An unlicensed dentist's office was shut down in Lawrence following a drug investigation.

According to the Eagle Tribune, 43-year-old Maira Josefina Villanueva treated as many as 30 patients a day in the makeshift dental office.

Police say patients waited in lawn chairs set up in the waiting room prior to their appointments.

Villanueva claims she was a doctor in her native country, the Dominican Republic. She told police she recently opened the office on Prospect Street because she has an infant child and needs money.

The office was immediately shut down. Villanueva was issued a summons Tuesday for posing as a dentist, which is punishable by six months in jail. She also faces a potential fine of $1,000.
