Patient dies after ambulance crash in Milford

MILFORD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) -- Police say a patient died Tuesday after an ambulance crash in Milford.

Officials say the ambulance was en route to Milford Regional Medical Center at about 11 a.m. when it was involved in a crash with another vehicle on Route 140. The ambulance rolled over and came to a rest on top of the guardrail.

The patient, an unidentified female, was picked up by another ambulance and transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

At least one paramedic was injured in the crash. Their condition is unknown.

There was no word on whether either driver will face charges.

President and CEO of Community EMS, Inc Randy Jusseaume released a statement Tuesday that read in part:

"An initial investigation has determined that the driver of the other vehicle failed to stop for a posted stop sign and struck the rear of our Ambulance causing it to flip and roll over before coming to rest against a guard rail. At this early stage of the investigation, we have no additional information available other than what has been reported by the local authorities. This is an active and ongoing investigation and we fully intend to assist and cooperate with all of the involved authorities."
