Pair charged in series of smash-and-grab burglaries across Mass.

BOSTON - A Texas man accused of a series of burglaries across Massachusetts was held on bail Thursday.

Frederick Williams, 29, is charged on six counts of breaking and entering, along with other charges stemming from a series of ‘smash-and-grab’ burglaries from Woburn to Brockton.

Williams was arrested in his native Texas and extradited to Massachusetts, where he was held Thursday morning on $500,000 cash bail by the Suffolk Superior Court.

Matthew Gallagher, 32, was charged along with Williams, but was not arraigned Thursday.

The two men are accused of breaking into cars and convenience stores across the Greater Boston Metro area on May 18 and May 19, 2017.

Williams and Gallagher were sought by police in Boston, Brockton, Cambridge, Everett, Stoughton and Woburn, along with Massachusetts State Police.

The pair is part of an even larger group that police say stole a van in Woburn on May 18, broke into two businesses, damaged an ATM, stole a safe from an Everett gas station and triggered an alarm at a Cambridge gas station.

The group allegedly then stole another van in Mattapan and broke into a Dorchester gas station, attempting to pry open safes before running off.

Police say the burglars broke into convenience stores in Brockton after stealing another van in Stoughton.

According to police, the burglars were responsible for a significant amount of damages and used large wrecking bars and a sledgehammer in breaking into safe.

Police say Williams and Gallagher were questioned at Logan Airport when screeners found $50,000 in cash in their carry-on bags.
