Pain at the pump is being felt across the state.

The national average price for a gallon of gas has risen 25 percent since President Donald Trump took office and is about 60 cents more than last year in Massachusetts.

"You adjust it accordingly. Drive fewer miles. Make sure you only make runs once. And if necessary, you raise your prices to match overhead," said Goldman, of Goldman Funeral Home.

At a gas station in Malden, Senator Ed Markey announced he's filing legislation to reinstate a ban on exporting American crude oil in an effort to control gas prices.

"We are exporting 2.5 million barrels of oil a day, even as we continue to import oil from OPEC. so it makes no sense," said Markey.

There's a handful of Mass. towns that have actually outlawed self-service stations, which means they're spending more for full service. Those towns include Weymouth, Upton, Milford and Arlington. Price trackers say drivers can pay ten cents more for full service.

Kevin Brown has been in the gas station business for nearly 25 years and welcomes any relief at the pumps.

"We notice it when we pay for gas. Because of the load amounts. They go from being down in the $5,000 range, up to now they're over $11,000.

Markey plans to file legislation this week.

As for paying extra this weekend, Brown says it's a matter of have plans, will travel.
