Owners of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones told to stop using them

BOSTON — Owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note7 are being advised to power down and stop charging the devices.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released their recommendation Friday afternoon.

“Lithium-ion batteries pack a lot of power into a small package. When these batteries overheat and burst, the results can be serious.”

The batteries in certain Note7 phones have resulted in fired while charging and during normal use.

The CPSC said it is working with Samsung to formally announce an official recall of the devices as soon as possible and whether a replacement Note7 is an acceptable solution.
