• Open markets in the Boston area


    Mass. residents looking for a fun warm weather activity may want to stop by some of the area's best open markets. Two of Boston's most popular markets are scheduled to open up this month. Here are a few markets opening around the state in the coming months.


    SoWa Open Market

    Sundays from May 5 – October 27: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

    460 – 540 Harrison Avenue


    It's time for SoWa Sundays! Located in Boston's South End, the SoWa Market is celebrating its tenth year in operation. Open every Sunday, the market includes an award winning farmer's market and nearly 40 of the areas best food trucks including Clover Fast Food, Bon Me, Roxy's Grilled Cheese, Fugu Truck and more.

    The market showcases many of the areas talented artisans, painters, sculptors and more. Shoppers can find anything from jewelry, to canvas paintings, clothing to accessories, home décor and more.

    There is also a vintage market within walking distance of the vendors and food trucks, as well as art studios, galleries and other shops.

    Greenway Open Market

    Saturdays from May 25 – October 26

    May – June: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

    July – August: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

    September – October: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

    The Greenway Open Market is an extension of the SoWa Open Market located along the Wharf District Parks on the Rose Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston. Shoppers and strollers will find similar vendors at this location each weekend from May through October.

    Salem Open Market

    October 11-13, 18-20, 25-27 and 31:

    11 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Derby Square

    11 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Essex Street

    11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Hawthorne Boulevard (October 31 only)

    Starting in mid-October, the this market brings locals and tourists another open market at the Haunted Happenings festival in Salem, Mass. Like the SoWa Market, Salem features over 50 artisans and their handmade goods.

    Hingham Holiday Market

    November 30 – December 1: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

    Free admission and parking

    Located 30 minutes south of Boston at the Hingham Ship Yard Marinas, the Hingham Holiday market is open for holiday shoppers. If you miss out on any of the markets during the summer, New England Open Markets hosts the Hingham Holiday Market. The market's site says 75 artists and designers have been chosen to represent their handmade crafts.
