BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Boston police are looking for a second suspect wanted in connection with a shootout with officers in Dorchester.
Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis says crime scene and ballistics teams will be back in the area of the shooting Thursday searching for evidence.
The incident happened just before 2 p.m. Wednesday near 1500 Dorchester Ave. Two undercover drug control unit officers were conducting an investigation when they noticed two men acting suspiciously. When the officers stepped out of their car, police say one of the suspects pulled a gun and fired.
Both officers were shot in the leg and are expected to be OK. They have been identified as Harry Jean and Terry Cotton, both 24-year veterans of the police force.
The officers returned fire, shooting and killing one of the suspects. The other one was able to get away and was last seen running down Saint Mark's Road.
Police were able to identify the dead suspect as 20-year-old Roudy Hendricks, of Brockton. He has a lengthy criminal record.
Commissioner Davis said it is unclear at this time if Hendricks was the one who opened fire on the officers. He added that ballistics testing is being done to determine if Hendricks was the shooter.
Investigators continued searching for evidence near Monsignor Lydon Way Wednesday night. FOX 25 reporter Heather Hegedus watched as police brought in potential crime scene evidence, including a blue Chevy Blazer found parked in the middle of Shepton Street after the shootings.
Police are seeking a second suspect, described as a light skinned black male with a slim build and braided hair. He was wearing a maroon shirt with stripes at the time of the shooting.
Police are asking anyone with information to call detectives at (617) 343-4470 or the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1(800) 494-TIPS. Tips can also be made anonymously by texting the word ‘TIP' to CRIME (27463).
