One person killed in crash on I-495 in Haverhill

HAVERHILL (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) One person has died following a car crash on I-495 in Haverhill on Saturday.

Police tell FOX 25 the crash involved two vehicles on I-495 northbound near Exit 50. They believe the crash may have been the result of cars trying to avoid a dog that was loose on the highway.

A 68-year-old woman from Salisbury who was in the back seat of one of the cars was pronounced dead at Lawrence General Hospital.

A 66-year-old man from Salisbury who was in the same car was flown to Beth Israel Hospital via medflight. The driver of that car, a 39-year-old woman also from Salisbury, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital before being transferred to Beth Israel. Their conditions are not known at this hour.

There were no injuries reported in the second car.

Portions of I-495 were reopened to traffic around 8:40 p.m.
