One person hurt in Wareham stabbing

WAREHAM (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – One person was injured in a stabbing Sunday night in Wareham.

The victim, Matthew Hamilton, 22, was stabbed in the chest around 11:53 p.m. at the Onset VFW on Gibbs Ball Park Road. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he underwent surgery and is now recovering.

When police arrived at the VFW hall, they found a large group of people fighting in the parking lot behind the building. A man swinging a knife was later identified as Sean Somers, of New Bedford.

Police say Sean Somers stabbed Hamilton. He was arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder. His brother, Alex Somers, was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Both men will be arraigned Monday in Wareham District Court.
