• One of Bulger's most trusted associates to take the stand Monday

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A former close friend and associate of James "Whitey" Bulger is expected to take the stand in the reputed mob boss's trial Monday.

Kevin Weeks is a key figure in Bulger's racketeering trial. It was his information that led to the discovery of the death pits beginning in Jan. 2000.

Weeks joined Bulger and Steve "The Rifleman" Flemmi in the lat 1970s. He met Bulger at the infamous Triple O's bar where Bulger often conducted business. At the time, Weeks was a bouncer. Over time, he was drawn closer into Bulger's circle.

The former Bulger associate was present for at least five murders. He helped bury victims in the death pits. Weeks also helped Bulger and Flemmi make money in the drug trade.

Weeks claims he never knew Bulger and Flemmi were informants until after his own arrest. He says when he realized that, he cut a deal. Weeks spent five years in prison in return for testimony against Flemmi, FBI agent John Connolly, and Bulger.

Monday will be the first time Weeks and Bulger see each other in 17 years. Weeks claims he last saw Bulger not long after he went on the lam. He helped Bulger obtain fake i.d. cards.

In June 2011, just days after Bulger's arrest in Santa Monica, Cali., Weeks appeared on the FOX 25 Morning News. FOX 25's VB asked Weeks what would happen and what he would say to Bulger if he were put in a cell with him for five seconds.

"I know he's a bad guy, did a lot of terrible things," said Weeks. "People would like to see me go in there and hurt him or something. He's also 82 years old. What are you going to get out of beating up an 82-year-old guy, you know? Talking? I don't think there's a lot we can say to each other."

It'll be worth noting if Bulger has any reaction when Weeks is on the stand. The men were once very close.

FOX 25's Bob Ward said in his report on the FOX 25 News at 6 p.m. Friday that it was Weeks who led police to the death pits and it could ultimately be Weeks who does the most legal damage to Bulger.
