On-duty firefighter arrested for possession of heroin

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Boston firefighter was arrested Tuesday for having drugs on him while on the job.

Stephen Hogan, 24, of Dorchester, was charged with possession of a Class A drug, heroin.

Officers said they saw Hogan walking in the area of Columbus Avenue and Bray Street and talking on a cell phone while carrying what appeared to be a plastic bag in his hand.

Police said Hogan was seen entering a car which then went for a short drive around the block before dropping him off.

Officers said they approached Hogan after he got out of the car and found heroin on him.

During an investigation, police say Hogan admitted the drugs were for his personal use. He reportedly told police he initially lied because he feared losing his job with the department.

Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said Hogan resigned from the Boston Fire Department Tuesday night. He served less than a year, making him a probationary firefighter.

Hogan is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Roxbury District Court.
