OJ Simpson testifies in bid to win freedom

LAS VEGAS (AP) — O.J. Simpson has begun testifying in his bid for a new trial in the Las Vegas armed robbery and kidnap case that put him in prison more than four years ago.

The 65-year-old former football hero is testifying before a Nevada judge who'll decide whether Simpson deserves a retrial.

The focus Wednesday is on his trial in a 2007 hotel room confrontation with two sports memorabilia dealers.

Simpson contends he got bad advice from a lawyer who Simpson now claims had conflicted interests.

Simpson never testified in his 1995 "trial of the century" acquittal in Los Angeles in the stabbing deaths of his ex-wife and her friend.

But he did testify at a civil wrongful death trial a couple of years later.
