Officer swerves to miss wrong-way driver, cruiser hits pole

NORWOOD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Norwood police cruiser was involved in a crash early Tuesday morning.

Police say an officer was driving around a curve on Sumner Street at about 2 a.m. when he encountered a car driving on the wrong side of the road. The officer swerved to avoid the car, lost control on slippery roads and crashed the cruiser into a pole.

The officer was OK. The cruiser sustained heavy damage.

Police say the car that was on the wrong side of the road, described as a small, gray car, took off toward Sharon.
