Off-duty state trooper suffers medical emergency, dies

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Massachusetts State Police said trooper suffered a medical emergency and died Wednesday while he was off-duty.

The unidentified 31-year-old trooper assigned to the Framingham Barracks as a member of the Division of Field Services was performing some sort of physical training when the incident occurred, according to state police.

He was taken to Framingham Union Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The trooper’s name has not yet been released, but state police said he was a member of the 80th Recruit Training Troop, and became a Massachusetts State Trooper upon his graduation in October 2011.

The trooper was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.

After his death, law enforcement personnel from across the state lined up along Albany Street in Boston to pay tribute to the fallen trooper as his body arrived at the Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be conducted.

The trooper is survived by his wife, father, sister and in-laws.

Details about the trooper’s funeral have not yet been announced.
