Ocean State Job Lot delivers 400K pounds of food to pantries

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston) – A discount chain is working to stop hunger in its tracks and is breaking records along the way.

Ocean State Job Lot filled 10 tractor trailers with 400,000 pounds of nutritious, shelf-stable food (the equivalent of 333,330 meals) and sent the convoy out to deliver the food to 10 different food banks throughout New England early Tuesday morning.

The food is coming from Ocean State Job Lot's charitable foundation called "Three Square Meals."

Boston Medical Center's Preventive Food Pantry is among those who received a delivery of 40,000 pounds of food.

This was the first installment of a 60-tractor trailer truckload donation totaling $1.25 million for 2013, marking the largest single food donation of its kind by a private company in New England.
