NWS issues rip tide warning for entire coast of Mass.

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- The National Weather Service issued a rip tide warning for the entire coast of Massachusetts due to the powerful currents from Hurricane Arthur.

The sun was out on Saturday, but Arthur left his calling card: strong currents that can create rip tides along coastal beaches. It was windy as well on Saturday, another remnant of Arthur, but that didn't seem to bother beach goers who flocked to the shore to salvage what was left of their holiday weekend.

DCR, which oversees state beaches like Nantasket, warned swimmers to beware of the strong currents and suggested that they pay attention to lifeguards.

If you do get caught in a rip current Kevin Conroy, park supervisor at Nantasket Beach said "don't resist it and to swim with it parallel to shore line. The worst thing you can do is panic and try to fight it."

"We highly suggest to people to swim where the lifeguards are so if they do get into trouble they can be rescued by the lifeguards . And listen to lifeguards if they tell you to stay away from a certain area it's for you're own good. We want to make sure people are safe," John Dwinell, director of aquatics for DCR said.

No rip tides developed in Nantasket, but swimmers say the current is stronger than normal.
