Norwood man charged in fatal hit-and-run

CANTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Canton police said a 19-year-old Norwood man was charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Canton.

Police said a 63-year-old Canton woman was hit at the intersection of Chapman and Wattles Streets. She was taken to a Boston hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to Canton police, the driver of the car fled the scene but returned a short time later. The Boston Globe reported the driver was 19-year-old Timothy Ciriello. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after causing serious injury or death.

The Globe reported that Ciriello's friends in the vehicle tried to get him to stop. He later parked the car and returned on foot, telling officers, "I knew I hit something but I didn't know what it was and I panicked."

Bail was set at $10,000.
