Northbridge man accused of fracturing toddler's skull

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - A 29-year-old Northbridge man has been held on $50,000 bail after pleading not guilty to fracturing the skull of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors say Rowan Cook appeared in Westborough District Court on Monday on a charge of assault and battery on a child resulting in substantial injury.

Authorities say Cook lived in the same home with his girlfriend and the girl. They say on Sept. 9 he was left caring for the toddler while her mother left to pick up a friend.

reports that prosecutors say he shook and slapped the girl after she threw food against the wall during a feeding.

The child remains in rehabilitative care because she suffered a significant loss of motor function on her left side.
