No injuries reported in plane's emergency landing in Chelmsford

CHELMSFORD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A plane was forced to make an emergency landing on a sports field in Chelmsford Friday afternoon.

At 4:12 p.m., the small plane, a Cessna 182Q, landed on the Graniteville Road playing fields. The pilot was the only person in the plane and he was uninjured, Chelmsford police reported.

No fuel leaked onto the field, and the landing did not create an environmental impact, according to Chelmsford police. The pilot  reported mechanical problems before landing.

The plane took off from the Minute Man Air Field in Stow on Friday. It was expected to return to Stow, but engine trouble forced the emergency landing in Chelmsford.

MassPort and the FAA were notified and will investigate.
