No Celtics, Lakers in 2nd rd a 1st since '07

(AP) The second round of the NBA playoffs is under way, and for the first time in six years, the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics are nowhere to be found.

The Lakers were beaten by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round, while the Celtics lost to the Knicks. The last time the second round began without at least one of the league's two marquee franchises was in 2007.

Both teams have a lot of work to do and questions to answer.

The Lakers will have to re-sign center Dwight Howard and get star Kobe Bryant back from a torn Achilles tendon.

The Celtics may have to start over after Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett led them to one championship and another NBA Finals in their six years together.
