NH woman charged after lying to trooper to get out of ticket

CONCORD, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) –New Hampshire police say a woman who explained her excessive speed by saying she was rushing to her dying father's side was later charged after a state trooper discovered her father had died five years ago.

Carley Williams, 28, of Nashua, N.H. is facing several charges, including driving after suspension of registration and speeding, after a New Hampshire State Police trooper pulled her over for going 82 mph in a 65 mph zone while traveling on the F.E. Everett Turnpike at about 9 p.m. on Aug.2.

Williams reportedly told the trooper she was rushing to Catholic Medical Center in Manchester to be with her father before he passed. Believing her story, the trooper allowed her to continue onto the hospital.

However, after the stop, the trooper was advised by the hospital that they had no patient listed under the name Williams provided. The trooper also learned Williams' father had been deceased since 2008.

The trooper met Williams at her home – obituary in hand - and placed her under arrest on Aug. 4. She was released on personal recognizance bail and will appear in court on Sept. 5.
