NH woman accused of hitting toddler while on drugs held on $10K bail

HILLSBOROUGH, NH (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A New Hampshire woman accused of hitting a 3-year-old boy while under the influence of drugs was held on $10,000 bail Thursday.

Katlynn Hollinsworth, of Hillsborough, is charged with driving under the influence and first-degree assault after police say she hit the boy outside his day care center in Hillsborough at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday. The boy, identified by his family as Cooper, was holding his mother's hand while walking on the curb when he was hit. The impact threw Cooper several feet onto a nearby lawn.

The boy was transported to the hospital with what are considered serious injuries.

Police say Hollinsworth failed a field sobriety test and later admitted to being under the influence of drugs, including the prescription drug Ativan. FOX 25 learned Hollinsworth was on her way to pick up her child at the time of the incident.

"It just devastates me that this innocent 3-year-old boy is paying for her bad choices that he has to suffer because she could not be responsible enough to drive a vehicle," said Danielle Levitz, Cooper's aunt.

Cooper sustained a brain injury. Levitz says his condition has not worsened, but it has not improved. He is expected to be OK.
