NH 'snipper' suspect guilty of indecent exposure

DOVER, N.H. (AP) — A man who was the sole suspect in a string of University of New Hampshire-area burglaries in which someone snipped off the nightclothes of women as they slept has been convicted of an unrelated charge of indecent exposure.

Police said 37-year-old Jeffrey Gelinas was arrested in February, accused of exposing himself to an 11-year-old girl at a Bed, Bath & Beyond store in Dover. He was convicted Thursday and faces sentencing next week.

Gelinas was convicted in 2004 of attempted burglary for trying to break into a Durham apartment. Police said it was related to eight so-called "Jack the Snipper" cases from 2003 to 2004.

In those burglaries, someone cut off or removed clothing from women while they slept. Gelinas wasn't charged, but police said he was the only suspect.
