NH police search for clues in decades-old missing person's case

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Federal investigators and local police spent much of the day Saturday searching for clues in a 35-year-old cold case.

Investigators were working to find evidence in the case of Denise Ann Daneault, after police were tipped off earlier this year to start looking for clues once again.

Police were focused in on a wooded area behind a housing complex in Manchester.

Daneault was a 25-year-old mother of two children when she vanished on June 8, 1980. Poolice said she was out socializing in Manchester, and no one has seen her since.

"I think it's crazy that I'm so close to it," said Tasha Morrissette, who lives in the area.

Neighbors on Kimball Street were surprised to see detectives in their backyard all day Saturday searching for clues in a decades-old missing person's case.

"I got kids and you're waking up early everyday wondering where your loved one is, so that'll be good to find for them," said McClinton.

Neighbors are hoping this search leads to some sort of closure for Daneault's family after 37 years.

"I hope they figure it out, find the body and figure out whoever did it, get him off the streets," said Morrissette.

The Attorney General's office wouldn't say if they were looking for a body, just that they're looking for evidence tied to this case.

Investigators will be back in the same location Sunday to continue the search.
