NH mother charged for daughters' absences, tardiness from school

OSSIPPEE, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A 34-year-old Ossippee mother is facing charges for failing to cause her two daughters, ages 12 and 14, to attend school.

Mandy Patch has been charged with two violation level counts of "Duty of Parent; Compulsory Attendance by Pupil" after her two children either missed or were late to school more than 40 days this school year, police told the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Patch was ordered to appear for arraignment on July 17. The charges are violation-level offenses punishable by a fine of up to $1,000, reports the newspaper.

Police said this as the first time the department has brought charges against a parent for their child's truancy.
