NH man charged with manslaughter in toddler's death

SOMERSWORTH, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 30-year-old New Hampshire man has been arrested in the death of a toddler in Somersworth.

Attorney General Joseph A. Foster's office has joined State and Somersworth police in investigating the Friday night death of the 2-year-old boy.

According to the attorney general's office, emergency crews responded to an apartment on High Street just after 5:45 p.m. to find 2-year-old Noah York in distress. Noah was transported to Wentworth Douglas Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators say an autopsy revealed the child was smothered to death.

Jared Pope was arrested and charged with manslaughter during the investigation into Noah's death. Investigators accuse Pope of causing the child's death. There is no word on Pope's relationship to the child.

Pope is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
