Newton police look for knife-wielding suspect in pharmacy robbery

NEWTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A robber with a knife jumped the counter at a Walgreens in Newton, terrifying the pharmacist. Police say that robber also beat up another employee who tried to call for help.

The suspect was after drugs and seemed willing to do anything to make sure he got them, police said.

Surveillance video captured the moment. The heavyset white male, armed with a knife, ordered the Walgreens pharmacist to hand over the controlled medications.

In the commotion, one of the store workers announced on the address system that the store was being held up. As he stormed out of the Newton store, the robber attacked another employee.

Police suspect the man has a drug addiction, rather than being a dealer.

A clerk was taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police want to find the man behind the attack. He was wearing a dark blue Patriots sweatshirt and gray and white sneakers. He's believed to weigh about 200 pounds.
