New park, playground dedicated to Somerville teen slain in 1995

SOMERVILLE, Mass. — Hundreds turned out Saturday morning for the reopening of the former Otis Street Playground, which was renamed in honor of an inspiring Somverville teen.

The playground has been renamed after Deanna Crimin, a teen who was murdered in 1995. The murder remains unsolved and, after years of gathering and hoping for justice, the family says it was nice to gather for something positive finally.

A celebration held at the park focused on the 17-year-old Cremin and how she loved to laugh and play with children in the park.%

"We lost someone special when we lost Deanna Cremin," said Mayor Curtatone. "This park will honor her caring, fun-loving spirit, and with the renovation of the playground, our children and families will be now able to enjoy a space dedicated to Deanna's memory and legacy."

Community members say it's a fitting honor to have a playground renamed for her.
