New parents give baby a name inspired by social media

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Celebrities began the trend of odd baby names years ago, but the family of a newborn took the trend to a new level this past weekend by naming their child "Hashtag."

Mashable.com reports that the 8-pound baby girl known as "Hashtag Jameson" was born at about 10 p.m. Saturday.

As the website highlights, this is the second time a social media-inspired baby name has made headlines. Last February, a man from Egypt paid homage to social media's role in the country's revolution by naming is son "Facebook."
