New campaign encourages women in Mass. to work in construction

You could start seeing more women at construction sites in the future.

A new statewide campaign called "Build a Life That Works" encourages women to pursue a career in the union building trades, according to the Boston Globe.

Currently, women make up only five percent of the workforce. The campaign's goal is to increase that number to 20 percent by 2020.

Projects like the Wynn and MGM Casinos are being used to highlight local construction opportunities.

The New England Regional Council of Carpenters said while women in this area have the skill set for these jobs, they often don't know how to break into the field.

The campaign has also put together a website to give women more resources to find jobs and connect them with more jobs.
