New Bedford bar reopens after failed parallel parking attempt

If this was a driving test, a 24-year-old Lexington woman would need a re-do.

A New Bedford bar reopened Wednesday after a driver had trouble parallel parking and crashed right into the front window.

Just before noon on Tuesday, a Subaru backed into the front of Pour Farm Tavern on Purchase Street.

"I couldn't believe how much damage came out of that. Such a small little car did so much damage," said Jim St. Pierre.

The car took out a support beam and sent shards of glass flying everywhere, just after the popular spot opened for lunch. Luckily, the table at the front of the tavern was empty.

"Nobody got hurt, that was the best thing that happened," said manager Liz Oliver.

Instead of telling the same story over and over again, Oliver decided to spell out what happened in black spray paint on plywood covering the window.

It read: CLOSED DUE TO TERRIBLE PARALLEL PARKING.

"We have no hard feelings, my sign outside was not malicious it's just to lighten up the mood for everything and I'm glad I get to tell the story over and over and over again," said Oliver.

Pour Farm Tavern reopened Wednesday night.
