New app seeks to help marijuana smokers find dispensaries

BOSTON — As marijuana has become legalized, there have been numerous efforts to regulate pot shops, but once they open a new app will make finding marijuana easier than ever.

The company is called Weedmaps, and they multiple billboards around Boston advertising their app.

“Weedmaps is helpful for people to find out where the actual dispensaries are,” marijuana consultant Jon Napoli said.

Napoli consults for a dispensary in Brockton, and said local dispensaries are thrilled the company is making inroads in Massachusetts.

“You’re going to want to be listed on Weedmaps because a lot of people will go there and it’s just another advertising tool for your business,” he said.

A public relations spokesman for the company said their app is “like Yelp for dispensaries.”

A doctor from a newton dispensary told FOX25: “The Weedmaps application makes it easy and convenient for patients to find a medical marijuana dispensary in their area, and with so few dispensaries in the state this is critical.”

The app currently lists medical marijuana dispensaries, and will include recreational shops once they begin opening later this year.
