Neighbors: Woman threw crock pot, other items at police during standoff

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — A New Hampshire woman is in police custody after a standoff that lasted several hours Monday afternoon.

Police said a woman made a threat over the phone just before 2 p.m., and when police arrived at her door they found her waving a handgun.

A neighbor said the woman threw kitchen items at officers, sprayed them with dish soap and pointed her gun at police before she was arrested around 6:30 p.m.

“She took a crock pot and like threw it outside and took dish soap she was like spraying it all over the snow,” eyewitness Rachel Murphy said. "She was just like waving the gun around which was terrifying then I got nervous and looked away."

Witnesses say Becker aimed the gun at the officers and pulled the trigger, put apparently it was not loaded.

“It ended peacefully nobody got hurt and that's all you can really ask for,” Portsmouth Police Chief David Mara said.

The woman has been identified as 47-year-old Susan Becker, who was upset she no longer had heat after a leak at the gas meter.
