Neighbors help rescue man from Saugus house fire

SAUGUS, Mass. — Two neighbors helped rescue a man from a burning home Wednesday after the house caught fire in Saugus.

According to the Lynn Daily Item, two neighbors said heavy smoke pushed them back multiple times as they tried to rescue a man in his 80s who lives in the home.

"I knew if he was in there, he'd need help getting out," one of the neighbors told FOX25's Michael Henrich.

The neighbors were able to pick the man up and get him to safety. When responders arrived, the man was taken to the hospital for treatment a little before 5 p.m.

The Lynn Daily Item reports that the man was conscious when taken to the hospital.

The fire remains under investigation; it remains unclear what sparked the flames.
