(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - The national anthem kicks off the games that so many of us love, and now, a controversial call to ban the song has been repealed.
Last week, Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League Commissioner Ed Sam sent a letter to the league saying the anthem was banned before hockey games.
The decision immediately received harsh backlash and national attention.
Sam says he received more than 4,000 e-mails and phone calls, causing the commission to reverse its decision.
Sam says the original decision to ban the anthem was because of time restraints.
The length of a hockey period was extended by a couple of minutes and the league was having trouble getting the games in during the time allotted on rented ice.
