Multiple black bear sightings reported in Webster, surrounding towns

WEBSTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A black bear was spotted walking around North Main Street in Webster Tuesday before returning safely to the woods.

According to police, the bear was seen walking in the area of North Main Street and Pearl Street. Police said there were two additional bear sightings in surrounding towns Tuesday morning. Bear sightings in Webster are a rare occurrence.

The bear was estimated to weigh close to 400 pounds.

Webster police issued a warning to residents Tuesday night about a reported bear sighting in the northwest area of town. Officials were working to detain the bear and relocate it to its habitat.

Police urged anyone who may see a bear to stay inside and call the police immediately. If you happen to be outside, walk - don't run - to a safe area away from the bear. Residents were asked to bring garbage or bird feeders inside as they commonly attract bears.
