MSP: 16-year-old added to most wanted list

FALL RIVER, Mass. — One of the youngest suspects ever has been placed on Massachusetts State Police's Most Wanted Fugitive List.

Jayden Smith is 16 now, but was 15 when he allegedly shot and killed a man in Fall River in mid-July.

"Bullets are flying, people are dropping, people are running," Fall River Detective Dwaine Cabeceiras said.

He described the crime scene when Smith and another man were recorded on video, hiding behind parked cars, moving up the side walk and shooting a man Jayden was in a dispute with.

"It's pretty much the corner of the fence right here is where they just turned and just started firing shots," Det. Cabaceiras said.

Smith is a member of a gang called Disciples Guardian, but this murder is not considered gang related. But police say he is believed to be involved in a shooting just two weeks ago in New Bedford.

"Very dangerous, young age, very young and he has no regard for life," Cabaceiras said. "He shows it by his actions."

MSP says there's a $1,000 reward for information leading to Smith's arrest.

"These kids are in  your neighborhood, your backyard and they don't care for anyone's welfare but their own," MSP Trooper Phil Giardino said.

He is considered armed and dangerous and police say he could be with another young man from the area.

"We're right behind them, we're going to get them, it's just a matter of time," Trpr. Giardino said.
