Mother of boy found in suitcase pleads guilty to assaulting other kids

WORCESTER, Mass. — The mother of a boy who was found dead in a suitcase on I-190 pleaded guilty to abusing her other two children.

Elsa Oliver was sentenced to 7.5 years for assault and battery and two counts of reckless endangerment of a child. The District Attorney said the charges are related to incidents involving Jeremiah Oliver's siblings.

The charges Oliver was facing related to 5-year-old Jeremiah's death were dismissed Tuesday. The DA filed a nolle prosequi for charges of kidnapping of a child, assault and battery, permitting bodily injury to a child and reckless endangerment of a child. Two other counts of assault and battery involving her other children were also dismissed due to her boyfriend, Alberto Sierra, entering a guilty plea last week.

Oliver's child, Jeremiah, was reported missing in late 2013. His remains were found in April 2014 in a suitcase of I-190 in Sterling. His death has been ruled a homicide and while Oliver and her boyfriend had been charged, the DA filed nolle prosequi on all counts related to his death for both of them.

The DA's office said the investigation into Jeremiah's death is ongoing and they filed the nolle prosequi "to ensure that double jeopardy does not attach or prevent further possible prosecution for the homicide of the child."

Last week, Oliver's boyfriend, Alberto Sierra, pleaded guilty to seven charges related to abusing her and her children.
