MIDDLEBORO (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) — The mother of one of two men under arrest and suspected of setting 24 fires across Massachusetts reportedly waved a human skull and a machete Thursday when officers arrived at her home to serve a search warrant.
Myrna I. Antoine, the mother of Jeanmarie Louis, was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Louis and Mark Sargent, Antoine's live-in boyfriend, were arrested after a building caught fire in West Bridgewater. They are charged with setting the fire and could be facing many more charges for fires that swept across the southeastern part of the state over the past five months.
Police say Sargent has been under investigation since a marine fire in December. He was questioned and police got a warrant to secretly put a GPS on his car. Since then, officials say his car was at the scene of nine other fires.
In Bridgewater, a witness saw the men running away and jump into that very car. Police believe the men were using starter logs you can get for your home fireplace to start the blazes.
Both men plead not guilty in court and are being held without bail.
Investigators say the men could face many more charges for the 24 other fires in the coming weeks.
Antoine was released on her own recognizance
