Mother dies after family rushed to hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — A mother has died from carbon monoxide poisoning after she and her family were rushed to the hospital last week.

Last Wednesday, a father of three walked into his Smithfield, Rhode Island home to find two of his children and their mother unconscious. The father, Guy Latour, called 911, and all five family members were taken to the hospital.

The mother, Kristen Latour, had no pulse when first responders found her; they did CPR and successfully resuscitated her, but she did not regain consciousness.

Smithfield police told WPRI Monday that Latour had died.

The father has since been released from the hospital. The children remain in the hospital, but officials said their prognosis is good.

The carbon monoxide poisoning was determined to be from a clog in the chimney area.
