Mosquito pool collected near Fenway tests positive for West Nile virus

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Red Sox fans heading to Fenway Park for a night game should layer on the bug spray after mosquitoes collected near the park tested positive for West Nile virus.

Health officials announced earlier this week West Nile virus was detected in a mosquito pool collected in the Fenway neighborhood, reports the Fenway-Kenmore Patch.

The mosquito pool is the latest to test positive for West Nile in the city. Pools collected in West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, Hyde Park, and Roslindale have also tested positive.

While there have been no human cases of West Nile virus reported in 2013, a Weymouth woman died on Aug. 16 after contracting another mosquito-borne illness, Eastern equine encephalitis.
